What's the best Martial Art to take up??

i'm thinkinf of taking up kendo...... but lots of people have been advising karate, taekwondo, jujitsu, judo and aikido to me.... does anyone on this board do any of the oriental martial arts?
any suggestions on the benefits and disadvantages of the martial arts?

The 3 most effective martial arts i've seen are BJJ, Thai Boxing and Wing Chun Kung Fu. The biggest obstacle to the practicality of thai boxing is it's tough demands on the body and the need for alot of conditioning work. BJJ has won alot of fans in the last few years mostly because of it's success in MMA(Mixed Martial Arts) tournaments. BJJ is awesome especially if it's one on one... but it's techniques are grapple oriented and not as effective against multiple attackers. Wing Chun (also spelt Ving Tsun) is a very well rounded martial art that focuses on maxamising the amount of force generated from your body movements and redirecting and harnessing incoming force and using it against the attacker or attackers and not relying on the use of brute force. It's not very pretty or fancy (unlike other forms of kung fu) but it is extremely effective. Cheers DK

it is an outright refutation of watchtower blood policies.
the rule against blood as we have come to know it through jehovah's witnesses is a bogus misrepresentation of already existing laws which the non-jews were under as far as jews were concerned.

What are some Watchtower rules and customs that have no biblical basis?
by jwfacts inthere are a lot of customs that jws cant do without any clear scriptural backing (off course there is always some infered scriptural principle to back up what they say) .
when i was a teenager my study conductor disciplined me for burning incense, reading me some mosaic laws that obviously do not apply to christians.
though this was a personal opinion not a watchtower ruling.

Yeah I remember feeling like a tool whenever i tried to explain it. It's got to be some of the dumbest watchtower logic that goes behind the no birthdays rule.
Yeah we should catch up sometime soon. I've been snowed under with work but i should be right in 2 or 3 weeks. -

Don't forget the whole reporting thing at the end of the month has no scriptural basis.
I can think of a few others:
Brothers having to wear a tie at meetings.
Can't celebrate Birthdays.
Not standing for the national anthem. -

by JH inalthough we are in 2006, often i think we are in 1996. i'm 10 years off.
my mom showed me something that she bought, and she wrote the date on the box.
i looked at it and it was written january 1995. i told my mom, it's only 1 year old.

It looks like that period of time (90's) left a strong impression on your mind. I think it's kinda like at the beginning of each year. Sometimes you come to write the date and you find yourself writing it using the previous year and not the new year.

Did Jesus Already Come in 1918?????

JW's believe that the jesus second coming is actualy a period which started in 1914 when he was enthroned in heaven as king. The first thing he supposedly did as king was battle with Satan and cast him and his demons down to earth.
What makes their belief even more ridiculous is their claims that the war in heaven ended in 1918 (coinciding with the release of watchtower officials from prison.) It took jesus and his angels 4 years to cast satan and his demons out of heaven. Funny to think that Satan could resist jesus in battle for four years. Considering Jesus is supposed to have created (or at least co-created) him and all the demons in the first place.
